Create unique, one of a kind Christmas Decorations from scraps of denim!
If you’ve got old jeans lying around or have scraps of denim left over from other projects, this is a great way to turn those scraps into a fabulous little Christmas tree decoration!
So today I set out to make a tutorial showing how to make an Advent Calendar…. but when I arrived at my studio I remembered that Advent Calendars need numbers! and with no printer in my studio, I thought I would create a little hanging Christmas tree!
I just love the simplicity of this and since it uses very little fabric is a great scrapy project.
I made my tree from a triangle template 5′ wide by 8″ high, but you could also make yours any size.
Top Tips
After sewing the back and front of the tree together, cut the seam allowance right back to only a couple of mm at the pointed end of the tree, this will make turning it much easier.
To make sewing all the pieces together easier, you could layer them up on a piece of lightweight fusible interfacing (making sure the glue side is facing up and next to the denim scraps), then press all the pieces in place, this will hold them all better while you stitch.
Test fraying your denim before cutting your pieces, Denim is usually made up of white threads and blue threads, you need to make sure you are picking the blue threads out to leave the white threads (so it looks like tinsel when you layer up!)
Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed my tutorial , Id love to hear from you if you make any of these little trees, and as always I’m happy to help if you need any assistance! Just leave a comment below 🙂
And I promise I will be bringing you the Advent Calendar tutorial in the next few days!
Happy Sewing!
